Javier Herminio Garcia
at
the Candidates' House in Monterrey finished at Britannico. He is now studying
English and music until August when he'll enter the special year at the
seminary. Congratulations, Javier!
Our correspondent in Monterrey
tells us that there is a new Soriana in the
neighborhood. (Soriana is a giant grocery store, like H.E.B. or Krogers.)
The owners--the widow and son of the company's founder--came; the son now runs
the company.
Joe (Pepe) Tomei blessed
all the employees and the huge store, from corner to corner. He ran so
fast through the big store that at one point they asked him to slow
down. The family couldn't keep up with him. (Pepe thought he was on a
jogging run--just another reason why some of us don't jog!) He didn't
realize they were following him. He was on the local TV news the next
day but only the politicos made the newspaper. The owners gave Pepe something
for coming, but he still hasn't told anyone what they gave him. A toupe??
A hairbrush???? Hair tonic?? Enquiring minds want to know!!!
He must have done a good job of blessing Soriana because the place has been full
ever since!!
Brother Richard Critz,
provincial of the South-West Province, and Father
John Korcsmar went down to San Antonio for the annual provincial
visit to the Brother Charles Andersen Residence. This is where the
temporarily professed live and are in formation. There are students
from five provinces there.
They began their visit by going to Mass at Oblate College,
a graduate theology school where our students study. At Mass, they ran
into Sister Charlotte Le
Beuf. M.S.C.,
who is now studying there. Sr. Charlotte was known as Carlota when she
was working at the parish in Cd. Guadalupe (Monterrey), Mexico.
Brother Donald Blauvelt
(the
third assistant general superior of the Congregation) showed Richard and
John his room at the Brother Charles Andersen Residence. This caused
John to wonder how large was the closet where the fourth assistant general
lived.
Being an assistant general from Rome, Brother Donald
demonstrated his extraordinary powers. There was a terrible
thunderstorm that evening in San Antonio. When all the lights went
out, Brother Donald opened the front door, and the lights came back
on. When he closed the door, the lights went out again. However,
he must have used up all his energy because re-opening the door did not
bring the lights back on a second time.
While John and Richard were doing the provincial visit,
Father
Larry LeVasseur was driving up to Austin each afternoon in order
to give a mission at San Francisco Javier Parish. The same storm passed by
there, leaving some rain around San Francisco Parish. However, the
Montopolis area did not get any rain. Once again, this neighborhood is
deprived of what others have!! |
