Father Pepe Ahumada
from the District of Chile spent a week in Guadalupe, NL at the Professed
House. He was returning to Chile after the ND Board Meeting at Notre Dame.
Pepe brought with him a DVD of the movie "Machuco", which features St.
George's College and Father Gerry Whelan
just before and just after the Pinochet Coup. The professed used the movie as
part of their pre-Lenten retreat. Pepe led an excellent discussion on the
times and what took place with Holy Cross. All in the Professed House highly
recommend the movie. Pepe has moved out of the Formation Program in Chile and
will become rector of St. George's in March. This will be his second term as
rector. We thank Pepe for his visit and wish him well at St. George's.
Brother Paul Bednarczak,
Father Ken Molinaro, Father George Lucas, and Father John Korcsmar
attended a workshop at the Oblate Renewal Center in San Antonio. The
workshop was good, but there was a section on growth and renewal in religious
life by Father Canice Connors, OFM Conv
that was absolutely great. He brings a real sense of hope and renewal
for religious life. He spoke enthusiastically about the communal sense
of mission and of growing together.
Paul, George, Ken,and John (doesn't that
sound like a rock group???) wanted to go to San Fernando Cathedral for the new
archbishop's installation, but it was by invitation only, and they weren't
invited. So they settled for second best: dinner on the riverwalk.
They had County Line BBQ.

What did George think of the BBQ??? Thumbs up!!!
(That BBQ--not blood on his hand. In Texas you use your hands to eat BBQ,
even if you are from the East!! |
Father
George Lucas, Assistant Provincial of the Eastern Priests and
Brothers Province, visited our men in Guadalupe, NL. George had been at the CMSM
Meeting in
San Antonio
and took the bus to
Monterrey
where he was met by Father Len Collins.
George stayed at the Professed House and spent a great deal of time talking with
the men in the house. He found it easier to speak with Len and Father
Marin Hernandez Campos, since he could use English and had fun trying
to communicate with the seminarians with a little Spanish and a little
English and a little translation. He also toured the CCD classes and
con-celebrated in Santa Teresita and La Luz. At La Luz, Len invited him to do
the final blessing, which he did in Swahili. George even got to see
Saltillo
. The only downer was the weather. This was George's second visit to Guadalupe
and for the second time there was no sun to be seen. He'll just have to come
back again. Isn't it said that the third time is the charm?
