The work of the Holy Cross Institute actually began twenty years ago. There were many conversations, individual meetings, and house meetings where people shared their experiences of Holy Cross education:
Very often, people would quickly see that there were some special things about their Holy Cross institution, the approach of the CSC educators, etc., but it took a while before people were able to develop the language to describe it. Brother Stephen Walsh remarked in his address that it is important to be able to look at our traditions and charism: "to name it, then own it, and share it."
Brother Stephen gave a very good presentation on the work that led up to this Inaugural Convocation. He described how we might think about the mission, charism and legacy of Holy Cross education.
In the afternoon there were a variety of group discussions, some on the college level and others on secondary level. There were also groupings by particular ministry. The provincials and superior general and vicar general had their own group.
The overall feeling was one of optimism and hope for the future!

Austin Interfaith (and the I.A.F. network) has included comprehensive immigration reform as an issue as well.
Sister Lili Martinez, CSC who works as an organizer with Austin Interfaith arranged a luncheon for the Austin pastors, parish social ministers, and others from the parishes.
John went over the Justice for Immigrants Campaign, the resources available, the goals, the present status of legislation, as well as the different events that are taking place. People seemed to leave very energized.
