| Sunday, January 7, was the feast of the
Epiphany. In the United States, it also begins National Migration
Week. At Dolores Parish, there were children dressed in different native costumes who were part of the entrance and offertory processions. After Mass, there was a covered dish dinner, at which Mexican, Puerto Rican, Italian, Cajun, and "American" (What else do you call macaroni and cheese???) shared. A good time was had by all!

One of the joys of community is that you just never
know when some one from the community will drop in. Here Sister Judy Murphy has a visitor. We are not sure who the visitor is, but we would guess the visitor has Vietnamese roots. |

Father John Korcsmar went to Notre Dame to learn how to make DVD videos. Father Steve Gibson patiently took the time to show him how to work on these. John finds them very interesting. However, it is very slow work. It takes 10 hours to produce 1 minute of the video. John went to the province archives and Father Chris Kuhn shared the pictures of those who had worked in Hispanic ministry and of other events. He even found one of Father Peter Forrestal with some hair! John stayed at the Fatima Retreat House. The house has been renovated for use as a community residence. It looks very nice, and there is a good community there. One of the suppers was chicken paprikash; it was rather good, but not as good as John's mother's or Sr. Judy Murphy's! |

Austin, like much of Central Texas, has been rather cold. The temperature is just below freezing, which becomes very dangerous with rain. The sleet makes things very slippery. John found this out the hard way leaving the provincial house to go to the hospital. His feet gave way, and he briefly "sat" on each of the steps all the way down. Now he has a real pain in the....well, never mind. Just hope he gets better soon. |

The Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of Mercy, just had their general chapter in Mallorca. Sr. Pauline, from Temple, TX, who had worked at Dolores Parish, was elected superior general. Sr. Martha Cupido, originally from Mexico, and who has been living at Dolores and working at San Francisco Javier, was appointed vicar general. |
