Every year Bishop Gregory Aymond of Austin meets with the religious of the diocese for a day of reflection.  Brother Joel Giallanza, CSC arranges and prepared the day.  This year the theme focussed on the politics of the state legislature.  Sr. Helen Brewer, DC and Bro. Richard Daly, CSC were the two main speakers.

Brother Richard Daly served in the Texas Catholic Conference for over 32 years.  He saw 16 sessions of the Texas Legislature, "up close and personal."  The legislature meets every two years.

Several people commented that his talk was the best one that they had heard at the day of recollection over many years.  The other talks were good--just an indication of how good his was.

Sr. Helen Brewer, DC gave a very good presentation on some of the issues that the state legislature is looking at: immigration (There are some that want to remove benefits and services for immigrants, both documented and undocumented); CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program), directives and protections for medical care for those who cannot speak for themselves.
