Father Peter Royal died.  Fr. Royal had been a member of the Eastern Province of Holy Cross for many years.  He earned two doctorates (philosophy and theology).  He taught at Stonehill College and later at St. Thomas University in Houston, TX.

When he retired from teaching, he became incardinated in the Diocese of Austin.  He was then an associate pastor and then a pastor.  He retired from active ministry a few years ago.

He was very much a recluse.  He had very few close friends.  He had no family still living that we know of.  Bishop Gregory Aymond was the principal celebrant, and Bishop John McCarthy preached at the Mass of Christian Burial.  There were about a dozen priests (including Fathers Zlotkowski, Fahey, Van Winkle, and Korcsmar); Brother Thomas Krieter was also there.  There were fewer lay people than priests.

Father Charlie Van Winkle drove to the funeral.  He got in front of Father John Korcsmar on Brazos Street and took the very last free parking place on the street near the cathedral.  He did this so that John would park in the garage and then have to walk farther to the cathedral.  He just wanted to help John by making sure he got some exercise.

Sr. Jacinta Amengual, FHM has lived at Dolores Parish and worked at San Francisco Javier Parish for the past 25 years.  She will be leaving San Francisco Parish and returning to St. Francis on the Brazos in Waco.  The parishioners held a farewell for her at the Flamingo Ballroom on Lockhart Highway.

Bob Morales was the MC for the presentations. One of the parishioners thanks Sr. Jacinta for her time at the parish.
This would have been a picture of Fr. Jim Martin talking about Sr. Jacinta if the battery in the camera had not died.
Sr. Rose seems to be having a good time.  Sr. Margarita is working on her "holy indifference."
